The Gois passage: a unique access in the world
The attraction of this island lies first of all in the singularity of its unique access in the world. The “Gois” is a submersible road, 4 km long, which connects Beauvoir sur Mer to the island and which is practicable… only at low tide! A bridge, built in 1971, makes the island accessible at any time of the day.
A preserved nature on the island of mimosas
The island nicknamed “l’île aux mimosas” is a real paradise for nature lovers. A breathtaking wild coastline, 40 km of fine sandy beaches, protected creeks and preserved forests, this island of Vendée is a gift for the eyes.
The salt marshes that cover a third of the island give it a unique visual aspect.
The Bois de la Chaise is a must-see on the island of Noirmoutier and the Vendée islands. This vast forest offers a wide choice of walks or bike rides. It shelters magnificent creeks with crystal clear water. Take a walk along the beach of the Plage des Dames, along the ocean. The island of Yeu has a diversified coastline. The southwest coast, called the wild coast, is rocky with steep cliffs and numerous preserved creeks. The northeast coast is more like the Vendée seaside with large sandy beaches and dunes.
The wild coast
In the south-west of the island, the landscapes drawn by the capes and the points are reminiscent of the Breton coastline. Some fine sandy beaches are sheltered by cliffs, between creeks, like Belle Maison or Anse des Fontaines.
Admire the Grande Bleue from the Pointe du Châtelet and the Tranche or take a walk in the Port de la Meule, a small fishing port dominated by the Notre Dame de Bonne Nouvelle Chapel.
The dune coast
Here, the beaches follow one another on a more accessible coast, along the dunes and the pine and oak forests. The surrounding marshes are home to many protected species that you can admire.
Yeu Island: a wide choice of activities
Here you can enjoy a wide range of activities related to the sea: scuba diving, surfing, sea kayaking, sailing, sea fishing, etc.
Admire the charms of the classified wild coast and its cliffs on which you can see the Old castle. The walks on the marked out routes of the coastal path will allow you to contemplate a unique panorama.
